Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi announced that it will carry out marketing activities called “PepsiMoji” in the summer of 2016, and created 70 kinds of Emoji novel bottle.

Studies have shown that forty 4-to 6-year-old children significantly preferred the taste of foods that had popular cartoon characters on the packaging, compared with the same foods without characters. (Andrew D. Ogle, Dan J Graham, Rachel G. Lucas-Thompson, & Christina A. Roberto, 2016)

Emoji Menu at Asia's No. 1 Restaurant Will Confuse and Delight Diners

As the World's 50 Best explains, "Gaggan Anand’s fertile imagination and culinary wit are played out in a lengthy but always fun tasting menu, which balances the soulfulness of Indian street food with hyper-modern cooking techniques to unrivaled effect."

This restaurant's emoji menu is a 21st-century delight

I'll take one ghost emoji, please.

While this style of eating might not be for everyone, it does seem like a really fun time.

Each dish was created by a team of chefs to match its corresponding emoji, and people are all about the uniqueness of the restaurant.

They seem to support my suggestion that if you want to focus on young children, and look at sugar within and as part of an everyday diet, you also need to involve the parents or the schools or day care facilities or churches. Think about this as a conversation, definitely around children learning about healthy eating, but also including the community. Remember that children don’t have a lot of economic power, and early in their life, it is the parents making most of the food choices.

Week 2

World Emoji Day

Topic:
We need more emoji
- The pictorial language of emoji can be used to communicate complicated thoughts

I have been looking at:
Designers and Critics have framed some questions about how digitally mediated communication is changing the way we feel. How to make people feel emoticons or emoji are now in use around the world? Is the emoticons always an appropriate form of communication? Emoji are a resource for linguistic creativity, because we all have our own style of speaking and writing, what emoji a person uses can be part of their own style.

My research question or statement is:
From my initial research and exploration, I intend to look at how emoji and emoticons impact the children experience, and purchase intent for other strategies. According to Greg Privitera, the most common reason is that food manufacturers do not have moral, ethical or legal obligations to put health information on children's food packaging, and they lack health literacy. If we can start to use images to add information about healthfulness of these foods, children will use that information and make the healthier food choices, because the research showed that there may be an effective and surprisingly simple way to encourage healthy eating and reduce obesity: Emoji.

Reference:

Emolabeling increases healthy food choices among grade school children in a structured grocery aisle setting (Gregory J. Privitera & Taylor E. Phillips & Faris M. Zuraikat & Robert Paque, 2015)

A more recent study showed that adding emolabels onto plain food containers could  further promote healthy food choices among 5 to 11 year old children ( Privitera et al, 2015)

Other studies have demonstrated that this works for adults, too. When we eat food slowly, our brain have time to recognize that we're fall. The "satiety signal", as researchers call it, comes from hormones and enzymes int the gastrointestinal tract and drives about 15 minutes after eating begins.

"Empowering children to make healthy food decisions- so giving them the kind of information, they might need to guide them in the right way- that's important for immediate purchases but also for building life- long food habits."

kids who didn't receive instructions (or didn't comply with them) finished the year more than 12 pounds heavier, on average. Those who followed directions lost an average of 6.6 pounds.

Sugar is everywhere, it is  celebration, t it is festivity, it is love. If eating too much sugar can led to obesity diseases.

Problem:

Sugar is addictive, and we don't mean addictive in that way that people talk about devious foods.
The food industry is doing everything it can to keep them hooked.

Today added sugar is everywhere , used in approximately 75 percent of packaged foods purchased in USA. Refined sugars also affect people' bodies and brains.

We has been found to be habit-forming in people, how can we kick this habit?
would be  to remove  sugar- sweetened beverages from place like schools or by putting restrictions on advertising  and by slapping on warning labels.

For example:

DietSensor (App)
https://www.dietsensor.com

The DietSensor digital scale automatically connects with the DietSensor app via Bluetooth, enabling users to accurately weigh their food portions when they count Carbs, Fat, Protein and Calories. This allows them to enjoy more accurate portion tracking, and food logging resulting in a higher success rate for achieving diabetes, weight loss and fitness goals. Users weigh items when they serve or even when they eat, if the scale is still under the plate, meaning accurate measuring takes place real time.

Week 3

Audience:

Sophie's family is a typical Kiwi household: two parents, two kids. The median income for this type of household in New Zealand is about $85,000.

Sophie's father is a tradesman, and her mother a teacher. Why? Statistically, the most popular jobs for men aged 25-34 are "specialist manager", at 9 per cent, followed by "construction trade or business", and "HR or marketing", around 5 per cent. The most popular job for women in the same age bracket is "education professional", around 9 per cent.

AGE FIVE

The most common type of couple-with-children household has two children, according to the Household Economic Survey. Two-parent families make up 71 per cent of family households, while single-parent families make up 18 per cent.

More than 95 per cent of children starting school have participated in early childhood education. The standard of this education can vary. There is no mention of being able to read and write in the description of a "school-ready" child. While most can write their name, read a few lines, and draw recognisable pictures, some arrive at school not knowing numbers and letters, unable to sit still on the mat, and never having held a book.

AGE SIX

Immunisation coverage for New Zealand children at five years is 84.7 per cent for the three-month period ending March 2016. One of the free vaccines available is for measles. Children need two doses of measles-containing vaccine to be fully immunised, usually given at 15 months and then four years.

New Zealand children are more ethnically diverse than adults, according to census data. Within the population aged 5-9, 71 per cent identified as European, 25 per cent as Maori, 13 per cent as Pacific, and 11 per cent as Asian. (People can give more than one response which is why these percentages don't add to 100.)

Almost all young people take part in at least one sport and recreation activity, according to the New Zealand Young People's Survey Series. Soccer and gymnastics are popular options for girls, ranked fifth and ninth respectively among the 5-10 age group.

AGE SEVEN

The Heart Foundation recommends seasonal fruit, sandwiches, sushi, couscous, and plain popcorn as lunchbox fillers. However, a sweep around a decile 4 school in Christchurch shows this is an ideal, not a reality for many families.
Sophie's preference is in line with surveys showing girls' favourite subjects are arts and English.
Sophie is setting a good example. A Transport Ministry report released last December shows fewer than a third of Kiwi kids take active transport to school, such as walking, cycling or using a scooter, and about 60 per cent are dropped off at the gate.

AGE EIGHT

Diets heavy in high-sugar food and drink, often combined with a lack of regular brushing using fluoride toothpaste, are causing high tooth decay rates among young children. Nationally, each year just over 5000 children aged eight and under received treatment for severe tooth decay using a general anaesthetic.

Greg Privitera, current chairman of the Behavioral Health Research Center at the University of Phoenix's Institute of Advanced Studies, have pointed out that when adults are fighting an obesity crisis, children are treated as viewers. One idea is why we do not involve children and give them a part of the solution?

We are concerned that parents can put the pressure on consumers on food manufacturers to reduce the amount of added sugar in foods they produce, some of which have been done on consumer demand. With changing our own purchasing and consumption habits, the best way to consume less sugar in everyday life, losing our sugar cravings. and reducing weight related diseases, that are afflicting so many children at earlier and earlier ages.

Week 4

Did you know that fruit juice can contain a similar amount of sugar per 100ml as a fizzy drink? And at 7 cubes per can that's the sum total amount of sugar an adult should be consuming in an entire day!

Eating sugar in excess is not healthy and new guidelines in the UK recommend that we reduce the amount of sugar in our diets. Sugar, like salt, hides in much of the processed foods we buy, so we can consume too much without even knowing it. Too much sugar means too many calories which leads to weight gain. This all adds up to increased risk of obesity and serious illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
How much sugar is too much?

I HAVE DESIGNED SOME CHARACTERS  SO FAR.

Sugar season. It’s everywhere, and addictive.

Comment:
- 4 grams = 1 teaspoon. I can only beg each of you to teach your children, your relatives, and your friends that 4gms = 1tsp.

- sugar actually promotes disordered eating. If one is "wrong" or bad for eating sugar, then it can trigger the "what the heck" syndrome after eating a few cookies, resulting in people eating the whole package (and then some). So much better to just have enjoyed with full permission and no judgmental noise going on in one's head, a lovely cookie. Permission (putting all foods on an equal playing field) allows one to be present while eating (to savor and also connect to one's body signals and the effect of that food on one's body).

Superscrit Feedback (Ant)

Report: I aim to help children make healthier choices, and parents became a healthy lifestyle. This report will inform the important debate on sugar.

Greg Privitera, current chairman of the Behavioral Health Research Center at the University of Phoenix's Institute of Advanced Studies, have pointed out that when adults are fighting an obesity crisis, children are treated as viewers. One idea is why we do not involve children and give them a part of the solution? Even if we think that our children are healthy diets, they are likely to add too much sugar from food, and even healthy children consume.

At the beginning, I want to design on adventure book aimed at children aged 5-8 years old, educating to create something that is motivating and inspiring and increase the awareness of healthy eating. However, my current problem is about what can I offer as an alternative to encourage people to make a small change. This information that sugar monster is not good for the people is not necessarily a good strategy to convince. I should change strategy to think about what makes people change their behavior in the next step. I realized that when I first defined the research question, the subject of my concern was more complicated than I realized

“Emolabeling is an image-based labeling strategy aimed at addressing this problem by conveying health information using emotional correlates of health using emoticons (happy = healthy; sad = not healthy) ... Hence, adding emolabels was associated with healthier food choices among children, thereby demonstrating one possible strategy to effectively overcome health literacy barriers at these ages.”

Health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.
